We’re proud to share the news that our respected friend and colleague Yooree Losordo, the director of network operations at Radiotopia from PRX, has agreed to join Hub & Spoke’s board of directors, effective immediately.

After our June 15 live listening event in Woodstock, VT, Stories in Sound, we hosted a small reception for listeners. Our informal host and raconteur was Vermont native Margaret Edwards, who delivered the following remarks. We liked them so much we asked her for permission to republish them here.

We’re excited to announce Hub & Spoke’s first live show of 2023! Producers Erica Heilman (Rumble Strip), Tamar Avishai (The Lonely Palette), and Wade Roush (Soonish) will perform versions of recent episodes for a live audience at the Norman Williams Public Library at 10 The Green in Woodstock, Vermont, at 4 pm on Thursday, June 15. Following the show, we’ll talk with audience members about what goes into making an evocative, sound-rich podcast. Reception to follow at North Universalist Chapel at 7 Church Street. All are welcome!

Boston—March 17, 2023—This week, the independent producers at Hub & Spoke proudly welcome a new show into the collective. It’s a podcast about magazines called Print Is Dead. (Long Live Print!), created and hosted by Rockport, MA-based producer Patrick Mitchell and colleagues.

Boston, MA—September 29, 2022—Out There, an award-winning independent podcast created by former Wyoming Public Radio reporter and host Willow Belden, has become the newest show in Hub & Spoke’s outstanding lineup. The podcast explores big questions through intimate outdoor stories.

Boston—September 12, 2022—Hub & Spoke, a nonprofit collective dedicated to promoting independent podcasting, is thrilled to welcome a new member into the ranks of its member-producers: Lori Mortimer, the creator and host of the podcast Mementos.

Today is the reddest of red-letter days here at Hub & Spoke! Our member show Rumble Strip, created by Vermont producer Erica Heilman, has been nominated for a Peabody Award—the nation’s most prestigious broadcast media prize—in the Podcast/Radio category in recognition of Erica’s devastating, uplifting 2021 episode “Finn and the Bell.” Almost simultaneously, Erica’s 2021 episode “Town Meeting” was rebroadcast by the chart-topping podcast 99% Invisible, in an episode that also features an extended conversation between Erica and 99% Invisible founder and host Roman Mars.

We’re looking for a director of development who loves audio, storytelling, and donor relations, and this week we posted a revised and refreshed description of the position.

Boston — December 9, 2020 — This week the Bello Collective, which brings together writers, journalists, and other voices who share a passion for audio storytelling, named two Hub & Spoke shows—The Lonely Palette and Rumble Strip—to its list of 100 Outstanding Podcasts from 2021. It’s the sixth time members of the collective have published their list of favorite podcast episodes of the year.

Boston — September 23, 2021 — Hub & Spoke, the nonprofit collective of audio makers dedicated to excellence in independent podcasting, announced today that it has secured its first major donation, a $100,000 gift from the Rasmussen Family Fund. The collective also announced that it is seeking to hire a development and communications manager to help build out its operations.

Boston, Mass. — July 26, 2021 — Tamar Avishai, creator and producer of the Hub & Spoke art history podcast The Lonely Palette, has been awarded the Gold prize in the Podcasts category by the American Alliance of Museums’ 2021 MUSE Awards program.

Boston — December 26, 2020 — Rumble Strip, Erica Heilman’s quirky and deeply human running portrait of the people she encounters in her audio reporting in Northern New England and beyond, has been named the top podcast of 2020 by The Atlantic Magazine.

Boston — December 2, 2020 — Today the Bello Collective, a coalition of writers and journalists celebrating podcasting, named three Hub & Spoke shows—The Constant, Rumble Strip, and Soonish—as part of list of 100 Outstanding Podcasts from 2020. The 2020 list is the collective’s fifth annual effort to round up members’ favorite episodes of the year.

Boston—April 2, 2020—Hub & Spoke, the collective of smart, independent podcasts with a hub in Boston and a growing set of “spokes” in other cities, today announced the addition of its tenth member show: The Briny. Made in the historic shipping city of Portland, Maine, The Briny is an independent nonfiction podcast about the way we’re changing the sea, and the way the sea changes us.

Boston, Mass. — October 7, 2019 — Language and how it unites and divides us is the subject of Subtitle, the first podcast launched as an affiliate of the Hub & Spoke audio collective. Co-hosted by veteran audio producers Patrick Cox and Kavita Pillay, the show is produced with the Linguistic Society of America with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Subtitle’s Season 1 trailer is available for download starting today.
