We’re excited to announce Hub & Spoke’s first live show of 2023! Producers Erica Heilman (Rumble Strip), Tamar Avishai (The Lonely Palette), and Wade Roush (Soonish) will perform versions of recent episodes for a live audience at the Norman Williams Public Library at 10 The Green in Woodstock, Vermont, at 4 pm on Thursday, June 15. Following the show, we’ll talk with audience members about what goes into making an evocative, sound-rich podcast. Reception to follow at North Universalist Chapel at 7 Church Street. July 4, Independence Day in the United States, means something extra-special for the producers who belong to the Hub & Spoke audio collective. We’re all independent by definition—that’s why Hub & Spoke exists—and the holiday gives us a chance to reflect on how grateful we are for the freedom to make the shows we want to make, the way we want to make them. Now that we’re evolving into a real non-profit with fundraising operations to support our vision for independent podcasting, we thought it was time to go to the next level and adopt the Fourth of July as our own official holiday!

We are thrilled to announce that Hub & Spoke’s podcast Rumble Strip, created and produced by Erica Heilman, has won a Peabody Award—the broadcast industry’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize—for the episode “Finn and the Bell.” The award was announced June 9, 2022, in an online video presented by actor and podcaster Adam Scott, known for his roles in the television series Parks and Recreation and Severance. Rumble Strip was the only podcast not supported by a major network, studio, or station to secure a Peabody nomination or award this year.

Our member show Rumble Strip, created by Vermont producer Erica Heilman, has been nominated for a Peabody Award—the nation’s most prestigious broadcast media prize—in the Podcast/Radio category in recognition of Erica’s devastating, uplifting 2021 episode “Finn and the Bell.” Almost simultaneously, Erica’s 2021 episode “Town Meeting” was rebroadcast by the chart-topping podcast 99% Invisible, in an episode that also features an extended conversation between Erica and 99% Invisible founder and host Roman Mars.
